Hit & Run? All Hail Decadent Baseball!

In 2017, North America’s Major League Baseball is estimated to make a revenue
of $$$10.3$$$ billion dollars.
Having observed how, in smaller countries throughout the world, a large population struggling to even meet basic needs, the concept that in the country of commerce, a spectacle so extravagant and stimulating as Major League Baseball can be so pleasing and reassuring seems absurd. However, viewed during this revitalized zeitgeist of a global union on the brink of destruction, baseball can be appreciated as the gladiators of the Roman Coliseum were lauded during The Fall of Rome. There is a sort of comfort in luxury and the alchemical melding of affluence and athleticism has proven itself over the past century in the US to be a moving manifestation of widely viewed gold. Despite abhorring the basic principle of spending decadent amounts of money to hire athletes and collect income for their athleticism and sport - I have grown to accept this fact and admire the eccentric, progressive and remarkable aspects about baseball (and soccer). Of course, I can’t entirely escape my affinity for wealth culture simply because I grew up in a major American city. Appreciating what Western Culture offers is difficult to escape, no matter how rough the conditions one lives in or experiences impoverished settings. The fact is, sports, more than politics and most other things gives those living in squalor and destitution hope and encouragement, to escape the slums to entertain a stadium is a dream for many. The American Dream? Dreams and fastballs are all we have left…
Is America's past-time merely a fever dream?
Is that a foul-ball question?
None of it matters, play ball!
